Independent audit
Every year Menschen für Menschen has its financial accounting audited by an independent firm of chartered accountants. For the Annual Accounts 2011 the Foundation received an unqualified audit opinion.
Moreover, expenditure in Ethiopia and the supporting documents are audited by external accountants and reconciled on a random basis with the work performed. The results are reported directly to the Chairwoman of the Foundation.
In addition, each year Menschen für Menschen Germany undergoes an audit by the German Central Institute for Social Issues (DZI). It again received the DZI’s seal of approval for donations until the end of 2013, as it has done every year since its introduction in 1992. The audit report of the DZI confirms that Menschen für Menschen keeps its administrative costs low and uses donations sparingly for the intended purpose.
Since 2001, the Austrian Chamber of Chartered Accountants bestows the Austrian Donation Seal of Approval to Austria-registered non-profit organisations. Menschen für Menschen Austria was among the first to receive the Seal of Approval for the reputable and competent handling of donations received. Since 14.11.2001, Menschen für Menschen Austria has been awarded the Seal of Approval every year without interruption.
Since 1999, MfM Switzerland is one of the organisations to have checked both spending and administration of donations received by Swiss ZEWO on voluntary basis. Special attention is being paid to transparent accounting and economic use of donations according to regulations.
ZEWO is a Zurich-based and official assessment body for fundraising organisations registered in Switzerland to safeguard the Swiss donation market.
